The Mountain Trail

Level 1 · Lesson 1.6

Your first QSO

Jimmy Bob, a friendly cartoon mountain man in a trucker cap and overalls

“Your first contact will rattle your knees. Mine did too. Then you will want a hundred more.”

You'll be able to

complete the steps of a basic contact and give a signal report.

A is a two-way contact. A typical one goes: a call (, meaning any station), an answer, a signal report, names and locations, a bit of chat about weather or equipment, and 73. Signal reports use : Readability 1-5, Strength 1-9, and Tone 1-9 for Morse only, so "5 and 9" on voice means perfectly readable and very strong.
